Emma Kavcioglu

Ascend California - Congressional Debate Junior Instructor

Emma is a senior at Granada Hills Charter High School in Los Angeles, California. She has competed in Congressional Debate for 6 years, and she serves as the captain of the Granada Hills Charter Congressional Debate Team. Emma is a 2X California State Championship finalist, placing 12th her sophomore year and 9th her junior year. She also placed 5th at the Cal Berkeley Invitational. She's also championed the Peninsula Invitational, West Los Angeles Finals, Tri-County Forensics League Final, and La Reina Tournament.

Emma believes the most important part of Congressional Debate is being simple in your explanations. Her favorite part of Congressional Debate is cross-examination and she believes that it is a great and undervalued tool in order to advance the debate. As a coach Emma hopes to help students build cross-examination skills and build confidence in the process.
